Take Your Workout Outside This Fall
While it remains quite hot and humid in many parts of the country right now, fall weather will soon be here before you know it. And this weather is what makes the fall one of the best times to exercise outside.
The weather in the fall isn’t quite as warm as it is during the summer, but it’s still pleasant. On most days, especially in the early fall, you can go outside without worrying that the temperature might suddenly drop and wind up freezing. Plus, the fall is a beautiful time of year. In many regions the leaves change color and you’re treated to breathtaking sunrises and sunsets if you’re outside at the right time. There’s nothing wrong with taking some time to appreciate nature a little bit while you’re working out. In fact, the wonderful scenery could end up inspiring you and motivating you to keep going.
Fall Outdoor Exercise Tips
Here are some tips for getting the most out of your fall exercise routines:
- Dress in layers
- While fall weather is often quite pleasant, it can also be unpredictable. If you dress in layers you can easily remove or add clothing to suit current temperatures
- Stay hydrated
- It’s easy to remember to drink water regularly during the sweltering summer heat, but you’re more likely to forget on a cool fall day. Your body needs hydration even when it isn’t hot out. This is especially true when you’re exercising. Be sure to drink plenty of water before, during, and after your workout.
- Mix it up
- The fall is the perfect time for a game of touch football or softball. Take advantage of the pleasant weather to get some friends together and play a sport. Not only will switching things up be more fun, but doing so will keep you motivated as well.
- Be safe
- The sun sets a lot earlier in the fall than it does in the summer, and it can suddenly get quite dark without much warning. Be sure to wear reflective clothing so that cars can see you, and carry a flashlight just in case. If you’re cycling, make sure your bike has appropriate lighting.
