Having Trouble Staying Motivated to Work Out? Here’s Some Help!

Sometimes it can be tough to find the right motivation to keep going. It’s often tempting to “skip a day” when you’re working out. Taking a day to rest can be beneficial, but sometimes missing one day turns into missing an entire week, and then an entire month, and you can see where this is going.

If you are having trouble getting motivated and finding it tough to get off of the couch and be active, here are a few tips that can help.

Help Getting Motivated

Review your goals

If you can’t bring yourself to work out, take the time to review your exercise, weight loss and fitness goals. Just looking at your goals can inspire you and cause you to keep going. This is also a good time to check and see if your goals are realistic and attainable. Unrealistic goals can quickly sap your motivation.

Talk to Someone

A friend, family member or personal trainer can help keep you motivated. Sharing your goals and your current feelings about working out with someone can certainly be motivating and inspire you to keep going. Even better, consider working out with someone else. This gives you a person to be accountable to, which will make it less likely that you will skip a workout session. This is one of the reasons why working out with a personal trainer is so popular. A personal trainer helps you stay committed.

Listen to Music

The right song or playlist can definitely get you moving. If you’re not feeling it right now, try putting on a high energy song that you like and spend a few minutes listening. It might just give you the boost that you need to keep going.

Change It Up

If your workout usually consists of a few minutes on the treadmill followed by a few exercises with weights, consider making a change, at least temporarily. It’s definitely possible to get bored or sick of a specific workout and that can make you less enthusiastic about doing it.

Know When to Rest

As mentioned, taking a day off from a workout isn’t always a bad thing. If you’re feeling especially tired, sore or otherwise unwell, it might be a good idea to skip the workout and rest. Have an honest conversation with yourself and if you feel like you’d benefit more from the rest, don’t feel bad about skipping a workout. You can go back tomorrow.
