Having a Safe & Healthy Holiday Season

Staying Healthy During the Holidays

The holiday season is here. This is a time for celebration and being with your loved ones. During this season, you’ll want to enjoy your time and the company you keep, but it’s also important to take precautions to remain safe and healthy. Here are a few tips that will help you have a happy and healthy holiday season.

Manage Stress

This is often a stressful time of the year. With social commitments, limited time, financial pressures, and other potential issues, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed and stressed out by the holidays. Get support from friends and family and pay attention to your emotional and mental state. If you start to feel discouraged or stressed, take a step back. Don’t be afraid to turn down social obligations in order to keep from feeling stressed.

Stay Warm

Cold winter temperatures can lead to serious health problems. Always check the weather report before you head outside and be sure to dress in layers. This allows you to add clothing or remove it as necessary to stay comfortable. If it gets too cold, head inside.

Watch Your Alcohol Intake

For most people, there’s nothing wrong with having a drink or two during the holiday season. However, be careful not to overdo it. There are many serious concerns and health issues tied to over-consumption of alcohol. And, if you drink, never ever drive. It’s simply not worth it.

Stay Active

Even though it’s cold, that doesn’t mean you’ll need to hibernate until spring. Bundle up and get out there! There are so many great activities that you can do during the winter months. Plus, sports and other activities are a great way to spend time with friends and family during the holiday season!

Prevent Injuries

Unfortunately, injuries frequently occur during the holiday season. Therefore, you’ll need to take some precautions. Always use step stools or ladders instead of climbing on furniture to hang decorations. Never leave fireplaces, candles or space heaters unattended. Watch out for icy sidewalks and roads.

By taking a few precautions, you’ll be able to enjoy the holiday season in good health. Have a great holiday and all the best in the new year.
