Summer is finally here, and that likely means you’re spending a lot more time outdoors. One of the best parts of summer is how easy it is to take your workout outside. Exercising outside tends to be more fun than staying indoors, it’s a great way to take advantage of the summer weather and it can help you get out of a workout rut. However, it’s important that you stay hydrated both when you’re working out and on a daily basis.
There are many reasons why keeping yourself hydrated is important. Water helps maintain your body temperature, it is needed to circulate blood throughout your body, it helps supply your body with nutrients and eliminate waste, it lubricates your joints and generally helps your body work correctly.
Here are a few tips for staying hydrated during the hot summer months.
Drink Water when you Wake Up
When you wake up in the morning, it’s likely the start of a busy routine. However, it’s important that you take the time to drink a glass of water. This will help you start your day off right and leave you feeling better as the day begins.
Drink at Each Meal
Make sure to drink water with every meal. Even if you’re having another drink as well, it’s a good idea to include water. Drinking water with your meals will help ensure that you get enough during the day and also help create a routine of drinking water that is good for your health.
Carry Water With You
One of the easiest things that you can do to make sure that you get enough water regularly is to carry a bottle of water with you and refill it throughout the day. You’ll be surprised at how just having water around will encourage you to drink it. Remember to bring your bottle with you when you work out and to drink water before, during and after exercise.
Get Water from Food
You don’t have to get all of your water just by drinking water. Many foods, especially fruits and vegetables, contain a lot of water. Eat these foods regularly to avoid dehydration.

A lot of people find water boring or too uninteresting to drink regularly. If this sounds like you, you can jazz up water by adding cucumber, lemon, lime, mint leaves or a number of other things to your water for a low-calorie flavor boost. Decaffeinated tea can also be a good option as can coconut water. Try a few different options and see which ones you like best!
