Five Tips for a Happy and Healthy Fall

The fall is here! That means shorter days and cooler temperature, but it also means leaves changing colour, delicious fall foods and plenty of fall events. However, a lot of fall events are based on food (Thanksgiving and Halloween come to mind) so it can be pretty easy to overindulge during this time of year. Once  you combine that with colder temperatures and more darkness, you can see how easy it becomes to cuddle up inside with some tasty treats rather than get up and get active.

However, it’s certainly possible to have a happy and healthy fall. Here are a few tips for enjoying all that fall has to offer while still focusing on your health and well-being.

Eat Seasonal Foods

Eating delicious whole foods that are in season is a great way to celebrate fall and improve your health. Try adding apples, parsnips, pears, cauliflower, squash, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, pomegranates and various other foods to your meals this fall. All of these fruits and vegetables are in season during the fall, so they’ll taste extra delicious plus they contain a variety of vitamins and nutrients that are great for your health.

Get Outside

Just because the summer is over, it doesn’t mean you’ll need to stay inside for the rest of the year. Fall weather is wonderful for exercising in because it’s not too hot, but it’s still comfortable. Plus, you’ll get to enjoy all of the amazing fall colours!

Indulge in  Fall Treats Responsibly

Between Thanksgiving, Halloween and pumpkin spice everything, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by fall treats. However, one of the keys here is moderation. No one is saying that you can’t occasionally indulge. However, when you do, it’s important that you understand what you’re eating. For example, many people enjoy flavoured coffee drinks this type of year. However, depending on the size and the options you choose, one of these drinks can range from 250 to 500 calories. Use information like this to indulge wisely.

Make a Schedule

We’re right in between back to school and the holiday season. That makes this a busy time of year. It’s easy to lose track of time right now and let the rush of this season pass you by. However, by making a schedule and sticking to it, you can make sure that you have time for exercise, errands, fun and everything else that you want to do this fall.

Stay Hydrated

In the fall, you may not think about hydration as much as you do in the summer, but that doesn’t mean it’s not important. Make sure that you drink enough water, especially if you’re being active.

We hope you take these tips and use them to have the best fall ever!
