Five Fun Ways to Exercise Outside

Now that the weather is finally warming up for a lot of us, it’s a good time to think about getting outside and getting active. Exercising outdoors can be a fun change, especially when the spring first arrives and we get to leave the gym and experience the sunshine and warmth for the first time in months.

However, outside exercise can be much more than just outdoor versions of the workouts you’ve been doing indoors all winter. Here are five fun ways to take your workout outdoors.

A Scenic Bike Ride

Cycling is good exercise. While you can get many of the benefits working out on an exercise bike indoors, taking your bike outside has an added advantage: the scenery. Head out with your bike to a beautiful location in your town and you won’t even feel like you’re getting in shape: you’ll just be enjoying the view.

Play a Team Sport

Not only is a team sport a great way to get in shape, but it’s also a healthy way to have fun with your friends. Rather than going out for coffee, dinner or drinks, why not meet up for a game of soccer, baseball or volleyball instead? That way, not only will you be socializing with friends without consuming extra calories, but you’ll also be having a lot of fun!

TakeĀ a Hike

Hiking isn’t just challenging and fun, but it’s also an excellent way to take in the sights. Depending on where you live, you’ll likely find several hiking trails that will take you through incredibly beautiful wilderness and other picturesque locations. Hiking can be a great activity to do with friends and family, but going alone works too.

Golfing

Going golfing is often thought of as a passive sport, but that isn’t true. Golfing includes strength training, balance, cardiovascular exercise and much more. For added fitness benefits, try to walk the course instead of taking a cart.

Swim

Swimming is excellent exercise that you can do both indoors and outdoors. If you have any outdoor pools nearby, they’re a great exercise option as the weather warms up. Swimming is a low-impact exercise, so it’s good for your joints as well.
